This is an interesting book. At first it seems to be about a small ship all alone in space, then it all changed and it was about space pirates and the prisoners they have captured. It was also about a large starship going out to find and destroy the pirates. Both stories were thrilling and had action, but every now and again there was a little side step into the lives of the pirates or other characters. It keeps the reader on their toes, you really need to stay engaged. If you can be a lazy reader at times and if your mind wanders it can not be a huge issue with some books, however this novel warrants your full attention or you will find yourself lost in the narrative and unsure if you are on the pirate ship or reading about the good guys. However, that aside, the story was pretty gripping and you will not find any times when your mind wanders away for long. Assuming book two will be out next year, this gives the reader something to look forward to. Finding out what happens to the crew and to the prisoners. This will scratch anyone's sci-fi itch. Detailed and thorough, precise but very full on, it is an exciting romp through space. If you enjoy science fiction get this book and be ready for a wild ride.
