Back in the Saddle

If you're looking for a light hearted romance or steamy, naughty read, this might not be for you. Some people might find the book content upsetting and/or triggering as it contains in-depth references to medical conditions. The story didn’t just focus on the romance but also on grief and how losing someone can change your perspective on what you are actually wanting for your future.

Frosted Christmas

A cute story for a cold winter's eve. This is a well-written love story that centres around Christmas time. The premise seems good but some elements may leave readers disappointed, some scenes seemed skipped over, almost like they were not worth explaining, when those scenes were often the most intriguing. There is drama and misunderstanding as is the norm, but there is also good writing and great characters, the plot moved at a steady pace and the only issue was those forgotten areas of the story that felt like they should have been given a little more time to strut their stuff. Grab a warm blanket and a hot cocoa and snuggle in for a good read.

An Alien Prince for December

Although not exactly a nice guy, for some, Ja’rynn still manages to be endearing. His devotion to December (his captive) is fierce even after personal tragedy and heartache.  The cat was the real star in this book, some spicey scenes and some action. But it is what it is. Short and sweet alien porn. Fine, if that is your thing. A few mildly amusing bits and the characters are written well for what they are. Do all the character decisions always make sense? No. Does the story take a few liberties? Yes. But if you find this type of book good. Enjoy.

Full of twists and turns. This is an edge-of-the-seat thriller. It does have a tendency to drag at points, these portions seemed like they were shoehorned into the story to try to stop the author from running head long to the ending,  but mostly it ticks along nicely. It felt a little hurried in its narrative, like the author wanted to get to the conclusion. It is a good story and well written. The characters draw you in and the spooky elements are great. It is a shame it felt rushed as the twists really are well thought out and are delivered in a clever manner.

Cold Light

Although the cover is a little OTT the book is well-written and full of heart, and bad boys. This was a quick read, quite a short book, the characters did not have the page number requirement to fully explore their relationships or themselves, but what they did have they used well. The narrative moved quickly but it was held back by the quickness of the turn over, this would have been better had it been longer, it would have time to show more and add a little more plot. The writing is very good, the author knows their craft. Easy to speed read in one sitting, worth a look.

Paperbacks from Hell

A brilliant collection of books from the 70's and 80's are remembered here. This is well formatted and set out. the only gripe is that it tends to focus only on books released in North America. Which is a shame and it would be nice to see various sequels that show books from around the world. That being said the art work on display is mind blowing and the book itself is a charming read, full of nostalgia.

Finish the Script!

Reading this book is a good first step for any would-be screenwriter. This is like sitting down to work with an author reading over your shoulder, pointing out simple errors and forcing a rewrite. The books format is perfect for someone who is working on a script; the sections explain each step of the process and the author also gives you a task to complete to show that you are getting it, this helps to know if you need to reread the section, as well as understanding whether or not you have successfully completed it. Then as you move on you see your script and your talent develop and it is amazing.

A crime novel with a bit of a supernatural feel. A real page turner. The story is gripping and the characters realistic and relatable. The pace of the narrative is perfect and the writing is excellent. This is a book about London, crafted with knowledge and love. It is not the usual fare for this genre, it adds mystery inside mystery and hides things in the shadows well enough to keep you guessing. A great book, a great author and a very good read.

The Fall

A brilliant read. This is a fantastic spin on Edgar Allen Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher". It takes some surprising imaginative leaps, and keeps you wanting more till you find out what happens in the end. The narrative takes a bit of getting used to as it jumps around, and POV changes are fast paced. But it delivers if you are not a lazy reader. It is creepy and best not to be read in a dark house, alone, at night.
